Djokovic puts spotlight on chauffeur's cricket skills, catches ICC eye

Imran Bashir’s cricketing skills might have gone unnoticed, if not for his client.

Bashir has been tennis star Novak Djokovic’s chauffeur at the ATP World Tour Finals for years. Late on Saturday, Djokovic, put the spotlight on Bashir as he took to Twitter saying, “He (Bashir) is a famous batsman for his local cricket team.”

The picture he shared had him with Bashir, who held a trophy. "He received this trophy for best batsman of the year and we need to get it out there!” Djokovic added.

However, the Serbian star did not stop there. He went on to mention the England Cricket Board asking coach Trevor Bayliss to consider Bashir for the squad as well.

The tweet was an instant hit, and many lauded the Serb's gesture.

Soon enough, the International Cricket Council (ICC) replied to Djokovic on Twitter and invited him to try his hand at cricket prior to the 2019 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Bashir would be hoping that his 31-year-old client continues his golden run when he meets Alexander Zverev for a record-equalling sixth title at the ATP World Tour Finals on Sunday.
