Carrom World Cup 2018: India sweeps doubles titles

Prashant More added the doubles title to his singles crown, as he and his partnership with Riyaz Akbar Ali allowed them to beat compatriots Zaheer Pasha and K. Sagayabharathi in the final of the fifth Carrom World Cup.

The women’s champion S. Apoorva (right) was beaten in the doubles final, in partnership with Kajal Kumari (third), the Swiss League champion, by Rashmi Kumari and Aysha Mohammed.

Prashant More added the doubles title to his singles crown, as he and his partnership with Riyaz Akbar Ali allowed them to beat compatriots Zaheer Pasha and K. Sagayabharathi in the final of the fifth Carrom World Cup, which concluded in Chuncheon, Korea, on Tuesday.

However, the women’s champion S. Apoorva was beaten in the doubles final, in partnership with Kajal Kumari, the Swiss League champion, by Rashmi Kumari and Aysha Mohammed. The Sri Lankans beat their teammates for the men’s and women’s third position.

The results:

Men’s doubles (final): Riyaz Akbar Ali & Prashant More bt Zaheer Pasha & K. Sagayabharathi 4-25, 25-5, 25-13.

Third place: Chamil Cooray & Nishanta Fernando (Sri) bt Shaheed Hilmy & Udesh Perera (Sri) 16-7, 25-14.

Women’s doubles (final): Rashmi Kumari & Aysha Mohammed bt Kajal Kumari & S. Apoorva 4-25, 25-7, 25-20.

Third place: Yasika Rahubaddha & Roshita Joseph (Sri) bt Maduka Dilshani & Chalani Liyanage (Sri)  25-0, 10-7.
