Tiger Woods shot a two-under 68 on Friday during the second round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational to get to six-under for the tournament, but the former world number one knows improvement will be needed for him to make an impact this weekend.

While Woods has put together two solid rounds, he remains five shots behind the leading trio of Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood and Ian Poulter.

Fresh off his finish of tied sixth at the Open Championship, Woods again finds himself in the top 10 of a big event heading into the weekend. But, he needs to go low on Saturday to get into the mix.

"The golf course is playing very soft, very receptive, and when you're able to hit five irons and they only roll out about a foot, the guys are going to put up good scores," Woods said after his round, via espn.com .

"There's 40-plus guys under par. That's never the case, here, at Firestone. So, tomorrow's going to be one of those days I'm going to have to go out there and post a low one and see what happens."

Woods has won this event eight times and his last professional victory also came here, when he lifted the trophy in 2013. "I play the golf course for what it has, and that's about as aggressive as I'll ever play this place," Woods said.

"It's imperative to hit the ball in the fairway here because the rough is thick, but you hit the ball in the fairway and you know that you can flag some iron shots, they won't roll very far. It's imperative for me to get the ball in play, and if I'm there, go ahead and attack."
