A scintillating 10-under second round propelled Danthai Boonma to the sole lead in the second round of the TAKE Solutions Masters golf tournament, at KGA here on Friday.
Boonma had a flawless day at the office, carding 10 birdies in a bogey-free round. His putting, in particular, was outstanding. The Thailand professional started with an incredible seven straight birdies, which forced the rest of the field to play catch up. He could have extended his birdie streak further, if not for a near miss putt on the par-3 eighth hole.

Boonma, who competed in the prestigious Open Championship last month, said, “I forgot to bring my Buddhist pendant necklace this morning. It’s my lucky charm, so I went back to the hotel to take it just 20 minutes before my tee-time. Thankfully, the hotel is right next to the course.”
The elated 22-year-old added, “Today was amazing. This is the first time I’ve ever shot a 10-under-par in my life. It’s also the first time I’ve started a round with seven birdies.”
Boonma (15-under 127) is five shots ahead of the tied-second duo of Argentinian Miguel Carballo and Australian Maverick Antcliff.

India’s S. Chikkarangappa (9-under 133 overall) moved up to fourth with a fine seven-under 64. SSP Chawrasia also climbed up the leaderboard, to fifth, after a six-under 65. Chawrasia nearly did not make it to the tournament, as his mother recently fell seriously ill with high sugar, and had to be admitted in a hospital. “She is doing better now, but she is still in the ICU. I tried to focus on my game, but every now and then, my mind wandered and I thought about my mother,” Chawrasia, a six-time winner on the Asian Tour, said.
Jyoti Randhawa (one-under 141) only just managed to make the cut, while another seasoned Indian campaigner, Jeev Milkha Singh (one-over 143), exited the tournament.
