The Indian U-15 women’s team progressed to the semifinals of the SAFF U-15 Championship after defeating host Bhutan 1-0 at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan on Monday.

The semifinals are slated to kick-off on August 16 and the Indians will face either Nepal or Bangladesh in the clash.

the Indians had an excellent opportunity to go ahead in the 13th minute when Kiran failed to make the most of her chance from inside the box. Kritina Devi rattled the woodwork in the 31st minute with a long range effort. Five minutes later, Bhutan caught the Indian defence napping and struck the side-netting.

Shilky’s volley from inside the box in the 41st minute looped inches over the bar as India continued to press ahead. In the 55th minute, Avika Singh’s effort from distance struck the crossbar and India soon struck the opening goal.

Shilky netted a well-composed strike in the 58th minute to give her side the all important lead. The Indians pressed to double their advantage but failed to find the target. On the other end, the defence had a busy day and mopped up Bhutan’s frequent counter-attacks.

Bhutan committed bodies in attack to search for an equalising goal but the Indian defence held on to register a 1-0 win over the host.
