Long before the Asia Cup started, the spotlight was firmly on India versus Pakistan matches. India registered huge wins on both occasions it met its arch-rival. A victory by Pakistan against Bangladesh on Wednesday would have had the teams meeting again, in the final.
Pakistan bowed out, however, with a 37-run loss .
Its absence in the final does not make the occasion smaller and, after all, India versus Bangladesh is no less than a blockbuster. Bangladesh’s upset win, instead, has heralded the renewal of a special rivalry. A dark horse in the past, Bangladesh has been a force to reckon with in the One-Day International (ODI) arena in recent years, and its contests with India have been intense.

1. World Cup 2015: Bangladesh vs India, Second Quarterfinal
IND 302/6 (50 Overs); BAN 193/10 (45 Overs): India won by 109 runs
Player of the Match: Rohit Sharma
In a World Cup knockout match, Rohit Sharma blasted a brilliant century to help India post the second highest score in a World Cup match. Electing to bat first at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Rohit made a 126-ball 137 and Suresh Raina made a 57-ball 65 as India posted 302 for 6.
In reply, Umesh Yadav wrecked havoc with four wickets as Bangladesh was bundled out for 193 in 45 overs.
It was M. S. Dhoni’s 100th win as captain.
2. India tour of Bangladesh, 2015, third ODI
IND 317/6 (50 Overs); BAN 240/10 (47 Overs): India won by 77 runs
Player of the Match: Suresh Raina
Having lost the three-match ODI series before this contest, fifties from Shikhar Dhawan and M. S. Dhoni helped India avoid a whitewash. Dhawan made a 73-ball 75, while Dhoni contributed with a 77-ball 69. Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina played brilliant cameos at the end as India posted 317 for 6.
Raina starred with the ball, too. He took three wickets as Bangladesh was bundled out for 240.
3. ICC Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v India, second semifinal, 2017
BAN 264/7 (50 Overs); IND 265/1 (40.1 Overs): India won by nine wickets
Player of the Match: Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli put on a supreme batting display as India marched into the final of the Champions Trophy. In what was warming up to be another thriller between the sides, Kohli-led India turned the match into a one-sided affair in the second half. Bangladesh scored 264 for 7 after being asked to bat first. In reply, Rohit made a brilliant unbeaten 129-ball 123 and found able partners in Shikhar Dhawan (46) and Virat Kohli (96*) as India won the match by nine wickets.
4. Asia Cup, 2012: Bangladesh v India
IND 289/5 (50 Ovs); BAN 293/5 (49.2 Ovs): Bangladesh won by five wickets
Player of the Match: Shakib Al Hasan
Sachin Tendulkar made his 100th international century but Bangladesh grabbed the headlines, registering its highest successful chase in an ODI against a Test-playing nation. Bangladesh gatecrashed Tendulkar's party with a well-planned chase as the Indian bowlers were left clueless. While Tendulkar scored a 147-ball 114, Virat Kohli made an 82-ball 66. Suresh Raina chipped in with a 38-ball 51 as India posted 289 for 5.
However, half-centuries from Tamim Iqbal, Jahurul Islam and Nasir Hossain kept Bangladesh in the hunt. Shakib Al Hasan, with a 31-ball 49, and Mushfiqur Rahim, with an unbeaten 46 helped steer Bangladesh to a famous win.
5. ICC World Cup, 2007: India vs Bangladesh, Group stages
IND 191/10 (49.3 Overs); BAN 192/5 (48.3 Overs): Bangladesh won by five wickets
Player of the Match: Mashrafe Mortaza
It was India's first World Cup match in 2007 and it started on a horrid note. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, India lost Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Robin Uthappa for single digit scores inside the first 15 overs. Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh staged a mini fightback but with Rahul Dravid and Mahendra Singh Dhoni failing too with the bat, India could just manage 191 on the board. Mashrafe Mortaza was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh with 4/38 in 9.3 overs.
Chasing history, half centuries on World Cup debuts by three Bangladeshi teenagers — Tamim Iqbal, Saqibul Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim — meant Bangladesh recorded a famous victory over its neighbour and later, the defeat was instrumental in India's first-round exit from the World Cup.
