Ramesh Powar who was named the interim coach of the team is one of the frontrunners for the job.

It’s been a month since Tushar Arothe stepped down as the chief coach of India’s women’s cricket team. And on Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will conduct interviews to fill up the vacant position.

While there are no official numbers on the number of applicants for the job, Sportstar has learnt that the figure is around 20.

Former India international, Ramesh Powar — who was named the interim coach of the team, Ajay Ratra and Mamatha Maben are the top candidates for the job.

“We have sent letters (to the candidates) informing them about time slots. We expect them to be there,” BCCI general manager (cricket operations), Saba Karim said.

Asked if there will be any interviews done via video conferencing, Karim said that it is yet to be decided.

Former India women's team captain, and CoA member, Diana Edulji is likely to  conduct the interviews along with BCCI acting secretary, Amitabh Chaudhary and CEO, Rahul Johri.

Karim will also be present during the process. There is a possibility that the name of the coach could be announced right after the interview.

While a few candidates confirmed that they have received e-mails, a few however, claimed that they still haven’t heard anything official from the Board.

“Even I have heard that there will be an interview on Friday, but as of now, there’s has not been any official communication yet,” one of the candidates said.
