There was good news for Australia on Monday with opener Usman Khawaja expected to recover in time for the first Test of the summer against India in Adelaide on December 6.
The 31-year-old underwent surgery for a torn meniscus he suffered during the two-Test series against Pakistan in UAE last month.
With Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft serving bans for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa, Australia's batting reserves have been laid bare. And Khawaja's return will be a shot in the arm for Tim Paine and his men.
Khawaja, before getting injured, scored a brilliant 144 that helped Australia salvage an unlikely draw in the first Test against Pakistan.
“It’s going pretty well so far, just over two weeks, ran at 100 per cent yesterday on the treadmill, hopefully run outside tomorrow, so progressing well so far,” Khawaja was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.
Media reports suggest Khawaja will face bowling later this week in the nets.
