Afghan cricketer smashes a double ton in T20

Shafiqullah's double ton, however, won't be counted for records as he scored it in an unofficial tournamet. So, Chris Gayle's unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors is still the highest T20 score by an individual.

Shafiqullah Shafaq's batting figures in a recent game in the Paragon Nangarhar Champion Trophy, a local T20 tournament in Afghanistan, looks like it's from a cricket video game. In 71 balls, he has smashed 214 runs with 21 sixes and 16 fours.

Shafiqullah's innings boosted his team's — Khateez Cricket Academy — total to a massive 351, with teammate Waheedullah Shafaq managing a 31-ball 81. The opposition, Kabul Star Cricket Club could only muster 107 in reply, thus handing Khateez a 244-run win.

In his T20 international career, Shafiqullah has played 35 matches so far and scored 392 runs. His highest in international T20’s is 51. But what stands out is his impressive strike rate of 143.07. He made his List A debut against Denmark in 2009 in the World Cup Qualifier. ODI debut came in the same year.

Shafiqullah's double ton, however, won't be counted for records as he scored it in an unofficial tournamet. So, Chris Gayle's unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors will remain as the highest T20 score by an individual.
