Novak Djokovic has congratulated Andy Murray after the in-form Brit replaced him at the top of the world rankings and said he is "happy to be in the same era" as the new number one.
Djokovic was officially the best male player on the planet for 122 consecutive weeks before his long reign officially came to an end on Monday.
The 12-time grand slam champion's quarter-final defeat to Marin Cilic at the Paris Masters last weekend gave Murray the opportunity to take the number one spot.
Murray was assured of achieving that feat when Milos Raonic pulled out of their semi-final in the French capital due to injury and went on to beat John Isner on Sunday to claim his fourth consecutive title.
Djokovic has failed to add to his impressive tally of seven titles this year since July, while Murray has gone from strength to strength and has eight tournament victories to his name in 2016.
The Serb reacted to Murray dislodging him by tweeting: "Congratulations @andy_murrayell deserved! I am really happy to be in the same era with you."
