Sarthak Gandhi wins silver at Nigeria TT Open

Ranked 356 in the world, Sarthak put up a streak of strong victories to reach the final of the Seasmaster Nigeria Open. While he lost to world number 39 Omar Assar of Egypt, it was his best performance to date.

Sarthak Gandhi of India scripted his best-ever performance yet, by reaching the final of the International Table Tennis Federation-Challenge Seasmaster Nigeria Open which concluded in Lagos on Sunday.

Sarthak, ranked 356 in the world, upstaged several higher ranked players on the way to the final including Li Ping (Qatar), ranked 45, Cazacu Alexandru (Romania) 274, Idowu Saheed (Congo Brazzaville) 317. He however lost to Omar Assar of Egypt, ranked 39 in the world, in the summit clash (4-0) 6-11, 11-13, 6-11, 8-11.

Gandhi trains at the Raman High Performance Centre in Chennai, run by former multiple National men's singles champion S. Raman, for the last one year.
