India rode on quickfire centuries from Yuvraj Singh, who scored his highest ODI score of 150, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni with a blistering 134-run knock to post a mammoth total of 381 for six in the second ODI against England and registered a 15-run win over the visitors, > clinching the three-match series 2-0.

However, in the final match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Kedar Jadhav was on the verge of single-handedly taking India to a win but, failed to rattle up the required 16 runs to lose the nail-biting match. With that, > England registered its first victory on Indian soil in this tour.

Kane Williamson's heroic 104 runs in the second innings and Tom Latham's mature 177 in the first innings helped > New Zealand register a comeback win over Bangladesh in the first Test in Wellington.

David Warner's brilliant knock of 130 runs and Maxwell's quickfire 78 helped Australia to put up a huge total of 354 runs against Pakistan and it went on to > win the fourth ODI by 86 runs after dismissing the visitors for 267 runs. With that Australia won the ODI series 3-1 with one match left.

Football

> Lucas Leiva scored for Liverpool for the first time in seven years as it managed to clinch a 1-0 win over Plymouth at the Home Park in the third round of the FA Cup. In the second match of the third round of the FA Cup, Southampton scored an extra time 92nd minute goal to register a late win over Norwich City and will now face Arsenal in the fourth round.

Real Madrid suffered a second-successive defeat and first at the Santiago Bernabeu in almost a year after losing to > Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal first leg 2-1.

In the second Copa del Rey encounter, > Barcelona defeated Real Sociedad 1-0 in the first leg of the quarterfinal on Thursday. Atletico Madrid also registered a > comfortable 3-0 win over Eibar in the first leg at the Vicente Calderon.

History was created at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday as > Wayne Rooney scored his 250th goal for Manchester United, becoming the highest goal-scorer for the club. Unfortunately, United had to remain satisfy with a point during its 1-1 draw against Stoke City in its Premier League draw.

However, Liverpool suffered a shocking defeat at Swansea, losing the match 3-2 in a thrilling contest.

In another thrilling encounter, Manchester City failed to capitalise on its 2-0 lead over Tottenham as goals from Dele Alli and Son Heung Min gave visitors a side of relief after snatching a point at Etihad stadium on Saturday.

On Sunday, 10-man > Arsenal went second in the Premier League with a stunning 2-1 win over Burnley that saw both sides score penalties in stoppage-time.

Chelsea extended its lead at the top to eight points with recalled striker > Diego Costa scoring the first goal in its 2-0 win over struggling Hull City.

In La Liga, Real Madrid was back to its winning ways after r >egistering a 2-1 win over Malaga at Santiago Bernebau with two goals by Sergio Ramos .

> Bayern Munich started off with a 2-1 win over SC Freiburg in the opening Bundesliga match of 2017. Robert Lewandowski scored a brilliant injury-time winner and his first goal of the match in the 35th minute. Borussia > Dortmund also made a winning start with a 2-1 victory over 10-man Werder Bremen at Weserstadion.

Badminton

Indian badminton star > Saina Nehwal won her first title after coming back from her injury when she claimed the Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold after a hard-fought victory against the 18-year-old Thai Pornpawee Chochuwong by 22-20, 22-20 in a 46-minute clash on Sunday.

Tennis

Australian Open

World No.117 Denis Istomin played the match of his life when he unexpectedly > defeated the six-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic in five sets 7-6(8), 5-7, 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 knocking him out in the second round.

Sunday was a day of upsets. World No. 1 Andy Murray > crashed out in the quarterfinal after losing to Germany's Mischa Zverev in four sets 7-5, 5-7 6-2, 6-4. Later in the day, World No. 35, Coco Vandeweghe produced a > shocking result by defeating the World No.1 and defending champion, Angelique Kerber, in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 16.

> Roger Federer played vintage tennis , performing at its best when he overhauled the No. 5 seed, Kei Nishikori, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to book a place in the quarterfinal.

In Women's singles, World No.2 Serena Williams reached the Round of 16 of the Australian Open after > thrashing Nicole Gibbs in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. On the other side, Venus Williams reached the quarterfinal after registering a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Germany's Mona Barthel and now she will face Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

For Indians, > Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova lost their Women's doubles Round of 16 match against M. Kato and E. Hozumi of Japan by 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna also lost their respective men's doubles matches. However, all three Indians still have chances of a positive finish, as they are alive in their mixed doubles matches.
