Deadline Day: Wilshere, David Luiz, Hart and more

A dose of deadline day drama courtesy Chelsea as the London club brings Brazilian defender David Luiz back from Paris St-Germain, only two years after he made the journey in the opposite direction.

After the deal was completed Luiz told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted to return to Chelsea. We had a fantastic story during my first time at the club and I want to help the team and Antonio Conte achieve a lot of success.

“I always had a wonderful relationship with the fans and I am looking forward to wearing the blue shirt at Stamford Bridge once again.”

Luiz is new Chelsea boss Conte’s fifth signing since arriving in the dugout at Stamford Bridge during the close-season, and the Blues’ second arrival of deadline day after left-back Marcos Alonso from Serie A side Fiorentina.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’a Jack Wilshere has secured a season-long loan move to fellow Premier League side AFC Bournemouth. The England midfielder was rumoured to be heading to Serie A, with AS Roma interested in his signature but the 24-year-old decided to stay in England after talks with the Italian side failed.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has allowed Wilshere to go in search of first-team football elsewhere as he bids to get back on track following a series of injury setbacks that have seen him fall out of favour for club and country.

And the Cherries have taken full advantage, seeing off competition from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and West Ham to land the 24-year-old on deadline day.

Tottenham swoops for Sissoko on five-year deal

Tottenham has signed France midfielder Moussa Sissoko from Championship side Newcastle United on a five-year deal. Everton looked the favourites to land the 27-year-old, but a twist on transfer deadline day saw Spurs swoop late on.

Confirming the move on his Twitter account, Sissoko posted: “Very happy to join @Spursofficial for the next 5 years!”

Tottenham later announced the completion of the transfer, which will see Sissoko remain with the north London club until 2021, after agreeing a fee reportedly in the region of £30million with Newcastle.

Addressing the Spurs fans in a video on Twitter, Sissoko said: “I will give everything for you, for the team and I hope we will win a lot of games, a lot of titles.”

Sissoko joined Newcastle from Toulouse in January 2013 and went on to make 133 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals.

His final appearance for Newcastle came in a 5-1 win over Tottenham back in May, and Spurs will hope Sissoko can reprise the impressive form he displayed for France during their run to the final of Euro 2016.

Sissoko becomes the third player to join Tottenham on deadline day, following Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Pau Lopez in moving to White Hart Lane. Tottenham also signed Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama during the transfer window.

Hart, Nasri, Wilshere secure loan moves

England goalkeeper Joe Hart has completed a loan move to Torino from Manchester City.

In a statement on the Torino club website on Wednesday, Hart said: “the offer from Torino arrived at the right moment, in the right way.”

The 29-year-old added: “I am very happy to be able to test myself in a lovely and difficult league such as Serie A.”

No financial details have been given but reports suggested that City will pay 60 per cent of Hart’s salary. England international Hart had been City’s first-choice goalkeeper since 2010, winning two Premier League titles, two League Cups and one FA Cup.

But he was frozen out by new City manager Pep Guardiola, who picked Willy Caballero instead of Hart before signing Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo from his former club Barcelona.

Hart’s team-mate Samir Nasri has been sent on loan to Europa League holder Sevilla on a season-long deal, both sides confirmed on Monday.

The French midfielder scored 27 goals and won two Premier League titles in five seasons at City, but after an injury-plagued 2015/16 season, new manager Pep Guardiola had criticised his fitness when he returned to pre-season overweight.

“The attacker arrives on loan from Manchester City until June 30 2017 without an option to buy,” the La Liga club announced in a statement.

Adding to the Machester City transfer exodus is France defender Eliaquim Mangala who has moved to La Liga outfit Valencia on a season-long loan deal.

Bony moves to Stoke on loan

Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony has joined Stoke City on a season-long loan from his parent club.

The 27-year-old Ivory Coast forward joined City from Swansea City in January 2015, but has made only 46 appearances since then, scoring 10 goals.

Bony was pictured holding a club shirt at Stoke’s training ground. The striker has made 44 appearances for Ivory Coast, scoring 13 goals, and was a member of the team that tasted glory at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea. But he has not featured for City this season under new manager Pep Guardiola.

Stoke City has also signed goalkeeper Lee Grant from Derby County in a loan deal that will run until January. Grant has made 186 appearances in all competitions for Derby over the course of two spells. The club also brought in Bruno Martins Indi on a season-long loan from Porto with a option to buy at the end of the season.

Balotelli, Liverpool finally part ways

Nice has signed Mario Balotelli from Liverpool, the clubs said on Wednesday, with British media saying the Italy international has moved on a free transfer. The 26-year-old joined Liverpool from AC Milan in 2014 but never fulfilled his potential at Anfield.

“We hope that, at Nice, with a family atmosphere, (Mario) will rediscover the pleasure of playing,” Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere told the club’s website.

“We know, him and us, that it’s not going to be easy, but with desire and, I hope, the backing of all of our supporters, we are going to help him to blossom and to bring all of his talent to the team’s service.”

Leicester completes club record deal

Leicester City has confirmed signing Islam Slimani from Sporting Lisbon. Leicester completed a club record deal for the Algerian international.

Slimani told LCFC.com : “To join a team like Leicester City is a huge honour and I can’t wait to get started. I’ve always wanted to play my football in the Premier League and to get the opportunity to do that with the reigning champions was something I simply could not turn down.”

His Algerian team-mate Adrien Silva has also been linked to the King Power Stadium.

Enner Valencia moved to Everton on a season-long loan deal.

Hal Robson-Kanu who was a free agent joined West Brom on a two-year deal.

West Ham have completed the signing of defender Alvaro Arbeloa on a one-year deal. The full-back makes the move to the London Stadium having been released by Real Madrid at the end of the season.

“I am really happy to be here in a great club in a great league,” Arbeloa told West Ham TV.

“I’m really happy to be back in England and, for me, it’s a great chance and I’m looking forward to playing with this side. The stadium is amazing. It’s really nice and looks fantastic. Hopefully I’m going to see the stadium full with all our fans and I’m really happy to be here.”

Gokhan Inler is one man leaving the Premier League champion, having concluded a medical at Besiktas alongside Inter’s Caner Erkin and RB Leipzig’s Atinc Nukan.

Liverpool’s Lazhar Markovic will join Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan deal, Luis Alberto also left Anfield to join Lazio .

Ezequiel Garay joined Valencia , signing a four-year contract till 2020.

Leipzig has confirmed one arrival, with Kyriakos Papadopoulos joining on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen.

Bundesliga rival Ingolstadt has signed Marcel Tisserand from Monaco on a four-year deal, while Eintracht Frankfurt has acquired Switzerland youngster Shani Tarashaj on loan from Everton.

Werder Bremen has signed Arsenal midfielder Serge Gnabry , the German club said. Gnabry joined Arsenal in 2011 but played only 10 league games in five seasons.

Premier League newcomer Burnley has signed Jeff Hendrick from Derby midfielder.

West Brom defender Sebastien Pocognoli has moved to Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion for the rest of the season.

Osasuna has signed French forward Emmanuel Riviere on a season-long loan from Newcastle United. The 26-year-old completed his medical on Tuesday and will now join up with Enrique Martin’s squad as it begins its preparations for a trip to Real Madrid after the international break.

Elsewhere in Spain, Barcelona B midfielder Juan Camara has joined Girona in a temporary deal.
