Fernando Morientes is not a stranger to India. The former Spanish striker had been to New Delhi last year to promote the La-Liga in the country, and during an interaction with the scribes then, the Spanish star had admitted that he has aspirations to play in India someday.

In a video issued by the organisers — Football Next Foundation — Morientes has confirmed that he would be playing the Clasico inIndia. “Indian fans, thank you for all the support. Looking forward to seeing you soon,” Morientes said.

Talking to Sportstar, Football Next Foundation’s founder Kaushik Moulik said that the Real Madrid legends will be reaching India a couple of days prior to the match. “We are planning a gala affair. In the next few weeks, a few more big names will confirm their participation,” Moulik said.

To finalise the deal, he was present at the legends match between Real Madrid and AS Roma at Bernabeu on Saturday. “This is for the first time so many superstars will be coming to India. We will release the final list of players in a few weeks time,” Moulik said.

There is also a possibility of Luis Figo joining the Real Madrid team, but the organisers said that a final call on his availability will be taken next week.

Earlier, the Lionel Messi-led Argentina had played a friendly againstVenezuela at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata in 2011, and German legend Oliver Kahn had played his farewell game at the same venue. Now, if everything falls in place, the superstars of Spanish football may grace the turf in India!
