Fernando Morientes is not a stranger to India. The former Spanish striker had been to New Delhi last year to promote the La-Liga in the country, and during an interaction with the scribes then, the Spanish star had admitted that he has aspirations to play in India someday.
Come September 15 and Morientes will be seen taking the field in India as the Real Madrid Legends team faces off against the Barcelona Legends. The veterans’ ‘El Clasico’, which is likely to be held in Kolkata, will see Morientes spearheading Real’s attack, along with yesteryear stars Victor Sanchez del Amo, Koke Contreras, Michel Salgado and Ivan Perez.

To finalise the deal, he was present at the legends match between Real Madrid and AS Roma at Bernabeu on Saturday. “This is for the first time so many superstars will be coming to India. We will release the final list of players in a few weeks time,” Moulik said.
There is also a possibility of Luis Figo joining the Real Madrid team, but the organisers said that a final call on his availability will be taken next week.
Earlier, the Lionel Messi-led Argentina had played a friendly againstVenezuela at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata in 2011, and German legend Oliver Kahn had played his farewell game at the same venue.
