Rajasthan Royals will step out in a new pink jersey in its next home tie against Chennai Super Kings for cancer detection initiative.

Ajinkya Rahane, captain and one of the faces of the campaign, said: “As a sports person, whether fit or not, I feel cancer screening is necessary for early detection and cure. I am proud that we are sending out a positive message via cricket to fans and public.”

He urged those following Rajasthan Royals and IPL to realise that a health check-up every six months will help in the long run. “I am looking forward to giving whatever support can be done as a cricketer for the cause.”

Mahipal Lomor, Heinrich Klaasen, Krishnappa Gowtham and the captain were screened at the SMS Medical College’s Oncology Department as part of cancer awareness programme, using the IPL to drive home the point that the disease is curable with early detection and timely treatment.

As part of the IPL-centric project named, ‘Cancer Out’ and the match dedicated for the cause, caner survivor kids will go out for the toss, according to the organiser. Cancer patients, wearing the distinctive T-shirts explaining the initiative, will watch the game from a special stand at the stadium.

Rajasthan ranks sixth among states in India with cancer cases, further 25 per cent of actual cases remain undetected till a late stage, according to information driving the ‘Cancer Out’ campaign.
