With England leading the series 4-0 and on the cusp of just a second whitewash in a series of five or more matches, captain Morgan opted to hand spinning all-rounder Dawson his bow.

Dawson initially struggled against the excellence of Sarfraz Ahmed, but took the wicket of his nemesis and Shoaib Malik to post figures of 2-70. And Morgan says it was vital to give Dawson match time with tours of Bangladesh and India on the horizon where the use of spinners is likely to be prominent.

"I have no regrets about the team - it was an opportunity to get Liam Dawson on the international stage," he told the post-match presentation.

"It was important looking ahead to the winter in case we go to three spinners that he had a game under his belt.

"I'm very proud of this group of players, they've been exceptional over the summer. We've lost the game but still put in a reasonable performance."

Joe Root was named Man of the Series despite making just nine, which followed the 30 he scored in Thursday's victory at Headingley. The Yorkshireman was disappointed not to contribute a big score, but is excited by the potential of the England team.

"You want to contribute every time you go out to the middle, the last two games it hasn't gone to plan for me but this is such an exciting side to play in," he added.

"At no time did we stumble or take our foot off the gas. You want the guys to go out, express themselves and play their natural way. The more they can do that, the better."
