Heavy rain lashed the district in the evening leading to the abandonment of the match between Dindigul Dragons and Lyca Kovai Kings in the India Cements Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) at the NPRCET grounds here on Monday.
This was the first time that a match was abandoned in TNPL's short history. Showers did not relent for more than three hours leading to puddles all around the outfield and empty stands. Players were stuck inside the dressing room. The officials wanted the rain to relent as the ground possessed excellent drainage facilities. The cut off mark for a minimum five over game was 10.10 p.m. which did not happen leading to both teams having to split points.
Dindigul Dragons is now at three points from four matches while Lyca Kovai Kings have the same number of points with one more match in hand.
The officials are keeping their fingers crossed with rain in the forecast for a double header on Wednesday.
