Having taken a five-for on day four, Herath picked up where he left off and accounted for Zimbabwe's final three wickets to secure a 257-run victory for his side.

The left-arm spinner posted figures of 8-63 as the host offered precious little resistance to close a difficult series, having lost the first match by 225 runs.

Zimbabwe resumed in Harare on 180-7, still 311 runs shy of the target.

Craig Ervine, who was the only player to pass 50 in the host's second innings, was the first to fall victim to the inspired Herath.

It took a stunning catch to end his knock on 72, a reverse sweep taken brilliantly by Dhananjaya de Silva, who had to wait for the outcome of a review before the umpire's call was confirmed.

Hopes of some spirited lower-order resistance were scuppered just two overs later, when Carl Mumba added only one run before being trapped lbw.

And the contest ended in the 58th over as Herath completed his impressed haul with another lbw to halt Chris Mpofu's resistance after the number 11 had added 20 runs – a tally bettered by only two of his team-mates.
