A 15-year-old bowled four overs — all of them maidens — and grabbed all the ten wickets.
That’s how Akash Chaudhary, a rookie left-arm medium-pacer from Rajasthan, shot to fame on Wednesday, as he grabbed all 10 wickets in a local T20 match.
Playing for Pearl Academy in the Late Bhawer Singh T20 tournament, the lad from Bharatpur was on fire against Disha Cricket Academy, whose batsmen, unable to tackle his pace, struggled to score runs. “It just happened, I don’t know how,” a rather surprised Akash told Sportstar from Jaipur on Wednesday evening.
Akash has been training under former Rajasthan Ranji Trophy cricketer Vivek Yadav in his academy, Aravali Cricket Club. “He is a bright young talent, who has all the potential to do well for Rajasthan,” Yadav told Sportstar .
Akash has been in the list of probables for the U-16 Challengers Trophy for Team Rajasthan. “Hopefully, I will be able to do well there,” he said.
Even though the Bhawer Singh tournament is not run by the Rajasthan Cricket Association, the T20 championship has seen the participation of some of the state's Ranji Trophy discards.
Cricket statistician Mohandas Menon confirmed that in T20 cricket it is a unique achievement. “Nowhere have I heard of someone scalping 10 wickets in a T20 match. It is really unique,” he said.
Coming from a lower middle-class family in Bharatpur, Akash stays at the Aravali Cricket Club campus on the outskirts of Jaipur to pursue his dreams. “I want to play for Rajasthan and then for the country. That’s the target,” said a confident Akash, who can bowl at 130kmph.
