CWG 2018: Ghosal, Pallikal in squash mixed-doubles semifinals

The duo tamed their Welsh rivals, Peter Creed and Tesni Evans, 11-8, 11-10, after beating over Sanjay Singh Chal and Aifa Azman (Malaysia) 7-11, 11-16, 11-8 in the pre-quarterfinals.

The Indian pair of Saurav Ghosal and Dipika Pallikal moved to the semifinals of mixed doubles in squash competition of the XXI Commonwealth Games, here, on Thursday.

The duo tamed their Welsh rivals, Peter Creed and Tesni Evans, 11-8, 11-10, after beating over Sanjay Singh Chal and Aifa Azman (Malaysia) 7-11, 11-16, 11-8 in the pre-quarterfinals. However, the pairing of Harinder Singh Sandhu and Joshna Chinappa failed to clear the round of eight hurdle, losing to the Kiwi pair of Paul Coll and Joelle King in two hard-fought games of 11-10, 11-10.

In the men’s doubles, Vikram Malhotra, partnering Ramit Tandon, found a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Chris Binnie and Lewis Walters (Jamaica) 11-4, 11-10, after topping Pool F. They received a walk-over from Yusif Mansaray and Ernest Jumbla (Sierra Leone).

Men doubles (pre-quarterfinal): Vikram Malhotra/Ramit Tandon bt Chris Binnie/Lewis Walters (JAM) 11-4, 11-0.

Mixed doubles (quarterfinals): Saurav Ghoshal/Dipika Pallikal bt Peter Creed/Tesni Evans (WAL) 11-8, 11-10. Harinder Singh Sandhu/Joshna Chinappa lost to Paul Coll/Joelle King (NZL) 10-11, 10-11. Pre-quarterfinals: Saurav/Dipika bt Sanjay Singh Chal/Aifa Azman (MAS) 7-11, 11-6, 11-8; Harinder/Joshna bt Zac Millar/Amanda Murphy Landers (NZL) 11-7, 10-11, 11-5.
