The annual Wipro Chennai Marathon normally conducted in December, has been postponed as a mark of respect to the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, the organisers said on Wednesday.

“Chennai Runners announce the postponement of the Wipro Chennai Marathon. The event was originally scheduled to be held on December 11”, a press release said.

“This decision was taken as a mark of respect towards demise of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa”, it said.

Jayalalithaa passed away on December 5 after a prolonged illness.

Last year also the marathon was postponed after the city was flooded due to heavy downpour on December 1. The marathon was later held on January 31 this year.
