Archery World Cup: Verma bags two medals

Former Olympian Deepika Kumari will be eyeing two medals in the recurve section, with one medal already secured as she reached the individual final.

Abhishek Verma's dream run was halted in the final by world number one Stephan Hansen.

Abhishek Verma bagged a silver medal and joined hands with V. Jyothi Surekha to secure a bronze in compound archery competitions of the World Cup Stage III, here, on Sunday.

Verma, who missed the target in the second shot of the third round, improved his performance in the last two rounds before losing to world number one Stephan Hansen of Denmark 140-123 in the final and settle for the silver medal.

Earlier, Verma had beaten Akbarali Karabayev of Kazakhstan, Austin Taylor of Canada and P.J. Deloche of France before getting past Russian Anton Bulaev in the semifinals on a perfect score of 150.

Verma and Jyothi Surekha did well in the mixed team event to defeat the American pair of Jamie Van Natta and Kris Schaff 147-140 to take the bronze medal.

Deepika Kumari will face Germany's Michelle Kroppen in the recurve women's final and will join forces with Atanu Das to take on Chinese Taipei in the mixed team event bronze medal match on Monday.
